Balancing living in a new city, uni work and riding was difficult to start with, however Terri goes above and beyond to make sure my horse Harley and I have everything we need from regular tuition to access to competitions. There is great access to hacking in the area with people always willing to accompany you, dressage teams, showjumping and XC groups and plenty of opportunity for schooling and comps away. I went to my first ever stay away with Terri and Georgia from the yard and had the best time. She’s also been a wonderful friend to all (horse and human!), and has created a warm community of like-minded supportive horsey people that I look forward to spending time with. Hill Livery is my family away from home and I couldn’t wish for more from a livery yard.

A part share came up at Hill Livery so I took the plunge and have not looked back! The team at the yard have given me so much support and no question has been too silly – I have learned so much in the last year. Lessons are available from Terri using the great facilities on site or a short journey away at local equestrian centres. Because of the support and encouragement from the horse’s owner and the team at Hill Livery, I have achieved more than I could have imagined in my first year as part sharer.

The horses on the yard live their best life! Herd grazing with views over Bristol and Ashton Court, deep straw beds with rubber matting, top quality hay and feed, warm shower, heat lamps, regulate farrier, physio and dentist visits – equivalent to a horse 5 star hotel! I can’t rate this yard highly enough.

I’m approaching my one year anniversary here at Hill Livery and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I was starting to get back into riding as an adult after a VERY large gap from riding as a child. My husband and I had discussed the possibility of becoming horse owners, something that has always been a dream of mine. Terri Hill and everyone at Hill Livery, the team and all of the owners and riders have been the best. After contacting Terri, meeting her and viewing the yard, it felt so right for us. Terri helped and guided me through the process of our horse search, ultimately finding my perfect horse match. The horses here receive 5 star love, care and accommodation. I get the help, knowledge and expertise to help and assist with every aspect of horse care and riding. I can’t recommend this livery enough!

Its a really friendly place with a lovely bunch of people. I had been away from riding for over 20 years however Terri and everyone at the yard have been a great source of knowledge and expertise and have helped me so much! I go hacking, have flat and show jumping lessons, have been to the gallops, am off cross country schooling and am having so much fun. A great inclusive livery yard.

I saw a part share advertised on Terri’s Facebook several months ago only a few weeks after giving birth to my second child. I booked a visit and thought he was an absolute gem and his owner lovely (I have not been disappointed on either front!). Although the timing felt a bit bonkers it has been like coming home returning to the horsey world.

The yard itself has facilities I could only dream about compared to keeping my horse on a DIY yard decades ago in Australia. Terri and her team couldn’t be more supportive in terms of updating my knowledge and the tuition has been brilliant. I have already been out showjump schooling with Terri and a group of wonderfully supportive livery owners and I am looking forward to many outings to come. I’m really enjoying becoming part of the Terri Hill livery family and thoroughly recommend the yard to anyone.

Where should we start? I dropped a message to a very responsive Terri who invited us around to the yard for a chat. Nothing ventured nothing gained, off we went and found a very welcoming Terri and her team. Explaining to Terri that my daughter was having some riding school lessons that weren’t progressing very much, and also her craving to learn how to care for a horse and ride better, Terri was so supportive in talking through our needs, allowing me to ask lots of questions and making me feel very comfortable, even with my lack of knowledge. To cut a long story short, 3 months in and we are part sharing a lovely horse. Terri went through everything with us, grooming, tacking up, everything we needed to get going. She has been regularly teaching my daughter who is already very comfortable in canter and has even started jumping. Her teaching skills in my opinion are exceptional, just the right amount of direction, encouragement and praise. My daughter is heading for her first Team Quest assessment at the end of this month ! She couldn’t be happier. For a child who is not the most confident, especially in new social scenarios, she settled into the yard straight away. I honestly cannot believe how nice everyone at the yard is, so helpful with all our little questions, so non-judgemental and genuinely all one team, whatever anyone’s age or background. They go out regularly together on hacks, competitions and days out which allows everyone to be included. I could sit and wonder how such an inclusive atmosphere has occurred but to me it comes from the top. Watching Terri at the yard with so many horses, sometimes with complex situations, she seems to be an oracle for knowledge of horses which means she is supporting owners all the time and genuinely wants the best for the horses and the owners at all times. She is central to everything and has her hard working team around her and everything runs so well. I think the horses and owners are very lucky to have a place there and we are so grateful for this pathway into the world of horses, my daughter is loving it, as I am too !

The incredible full livery service is beyond five star with so much care and attention to the horses welfare. They are treated so beautifully and individually with an incredible depth of experience. The opportunities for the riders are fantastic, from riding after work in winter in the floodlit school to lovely local hacks, to lessons onsite with Terri as well as amazing outings such as XC and SJ schooling with instruction from Terri. Returning to riding after a long break and for my daughter moving on from learning to ride at a riding school, I feel like we hit the jackpot when we joined the yard. There is such a lovely generosity of spirit amongst everyone, staff and yard members alike, from sharing knowledge and expertise to kit and transport. The addition of everyone’s dogs and the other animals on the yard is an extra bonus. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

I was very apprehensive at first after a two year break, especially going in as a sharer, but everyone at the yard has been super supportive, friendly and welcoming into the Hill Livery family. I had no expectation of being able to have regular lessons, getting out schooling and even competing again but that’s exactly what I have been able to do. The teaching from Terri is brilliant and the care that the horses get from all the staff every day is above and beyond. Nothing is too much trouble and there is always someone around to help answer your questions or just to say hello. Seeing all the extra animals at the yard is an added bonus to brighten up your day. Terri has created something special at Hill Livery and it shows in all the happy horses and humans.

I can honestly say after coming back into horses after a 20+ year break, I’ve made my fair share of blunders such as buying a horse that was too big, too young, totally green & with not the best conformation, just because he was the right colour! But I have totally redeemed myself by making the decision to move him to Hill Livery. It has been the absolute making of us both. I joined Hill Livery in August 2020 and have to say it’s been an amazing and transformational 2.5 years and I have loved every moment of it.

When I arrived in 2020 I’d had my horse for 4 years and apart from hacking (and falling off), we really hadn’t done anything, he was still unschooled and I didn’t really have the skills or the confidence to do anything to rectify it, which meant that he hadn’t developed any of the necessary muscles to help carry himself or me on his back. He generally liked to drag himself around doing a fine impression of a Llama, head in the air and hollow back. To add to the mix, he arrived at Terri’s slightly lame, which led to him requiring surgery
and then recovery time. Terri and her team were utterly amazing during his recovery, the care and animal husbandry he received was first class and so he made a speedy & full recovery.

Once he was back to full strength, Terri set to work on re-educating both of us, improving my riding skills ( or lack thereof, which was an enormous task) and ensuring that my horse started working correctly to begin building muscles in the right places. We’re both still on a journey of improvement, but we have come such a long way in the 18 months that we’ve been back working. I honestly feel like I’ve got a completely different horse to the one I arrived at the yard with and that is all down to the skills and horsemanship of Terri and her team. Terri took someone who was terrified to ask her horse to canter and turned them into someone who can’t wait to go SJ or XC schooling. I’ve even been persuaded to venture to the dark side and have a go at dressage!

Terri is a fantastic instructor and she adapts her style to the needs of each horse/rider and really gets results.

In terms of livery care, your horses get the best. All year turnout in proper fields which is a total rarity around this area. The biggest straw beds I’ve ever seen, they make me want to snuggle down in them and have a snooze. Tack is cleaned for you, there’s an onsite washing machine so saddle pads etc are always clean and ready for you to use. There’s a horse shower area with heat lamps and hot shower. The team take care of everything your horse could want/need, they often know them better than we do. It means that if you go away you can totally relax safe in the knowledge that your equine best friend is being totally pampered in your absence.

Being on a livery yard, isn’t just all about the horse care, it’s also down to the people on the yard (horse owners, staff etc). Hill Livery has just the best bunch of people you could ever wish to meet both as staff and livery owners. There is a real team ethos and friendship throughout the yard, everyone helps each other out and is a great support network not forgetting lots of fun and laughter. Hill Livery definitely feels more like a lovely social family than just a group of individual horse enthusiasts.

I could wax on for hours about the brilliance of Hill Livery, but suffice enough to say that I believe it is the BEST place for me and my horse. We love being at the yard and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Just driving through the gates puts a huge smile on my face. Its rare that spaces become available at Terri’s and that’s because once you’ve experienced being there, you won’t want to leave.

I have been a part-loaner at the yard for about 8 months. I am so impressed by the utmost care the owners, Terri, and the team give to their horses. Everyone at the yard is passionate and welcoming. The facilities are great with lessons onsite, a large arena, and hacking nearby. This is really the perfect place to ride just outside Bristol!
